How we work.

One coordinator

A named coordinator plans your move with you and is the person to reach before, during and after the day.

Both homes protected

Floor runners go down and door jambs and railings are padded at both addresses, and furniture is pad wrapped before it leaves the room.

Everything in writing

Your estimate itemizes every charge before you book, and anything you add later is put in writing for you to approve first.

Questions

Straight answers about moving in the Twin Cities.

How much do movers cost in the Twin Cities?
It depends on how much is moving, the stairs, elevators and walking distance at both homes, how much packing you want, the distance between the homes and the day you pick. That is why we do not publish a flat rate. A coordinator goes over your move with you, and you get a free written estimate with every charge on its own line before you book.
How do I choose a moving company in Minnesota?
Get written estimates from two or three movers who have looked at your home, in person, by phone or by video. Check that each company's name, address and phone number match on its website and its listings, read its recent reviews, and ask who will do the work on the day. A company that moves household goods for hire within Minnesota needs a household goods carrier permit from MnDOT, so ask each mover for its number. Be careful with a price far below the others or a request for a large cash deposit.
What should I ask a mover before I book?
Ask whether the estimate is in writing and what could change it, what is included (floor protection, furniture wrapping, taking beds apart and putting them back together, packing supplies), which level of protection covers your things, who will do the work, when payment is due, how a date change or a cancellation works, and how to file a claim if something is damaged.
How far ahead should I book movers in the Twin Cities?
Two to three weeks is comfortable for most local moves. The end of the month, the first weekend of the month and the summer season fill up fastest, so book earlier if your date falls there. We do take short notice moves when we have a crew available, so it is always worth calling.
When is the busiest time to move in Minnesota?
Summer, the end of each month and the first weekend of the month fill up first, and Saturday is the most requested day. A weekday date is usually easier to get.
Do movers work in the Minnesota winter?
Yes. We move all year. In winter, check your city's snow emergency and overnight parking rules before the day, and keep the walks and the driveway clear and salted. The crew protects your floors from snow and salt. Each of our city pages covers that city's parking rules.
What are the ways to get an estimate?
Four, and you pick: in person at your home, by phone, with a video walkthrough you record on your phone, or with the Back to Basics room-by-room checklist. In person or by phone, you usually get your estimate on the spot or by email right after. A video walkthrough or a checklist comes back as a written quote by email, usually within a few business hours. Every estimate is free, and nothing is booked until you say so.
Can you store my things between closing dates?
Yes. We can store your things for up to 90 days as part of your move, then deliver them when the new place is ready. Everything is listed and labeled when it goes in, and access is by appointment. We cannot store perishables, plants, hazardous materials, firearms, cash, jewelry or important papers. Your storage agreement has the full list.
