Lots here are narrow and many houses have a detached garage on the alley. When the alley is clear, we usually load from that side, which shortens the carry. Loading from the street side means negotiating parking with the neighbors.

From November 15 to March 15, Columbia Heights bans parking on any street from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. unless a permit has been issued for that vehicle, and from March 16 to May 1 the same ban applies when 2 inches or more of snow is on the roadway. After a snowfall of 2 inches or more, no street parking is allowed until the road is plowed curb to curb, and at any time a vehicle may not stay in one place on a street for more than 6 continuous hours. Dumpsters, storage containers and other non-motorized obstructions in the street need a Street Obstruction Permit from Public Works (637 38th Avenue NE, 763-706-3700), with flashers required if they stay overnight. City ordinance requires all owners of rental property to provide sufficient off street parking for tenants.
