Minneapolis homes, and what that means on the day.
Every kind of housing there is: downtown and North Loop condo towers with freight elevators and loading docks, Uptown and Whittier walk up apartments from the 1920s with no elevator at all, Northeast and South Minneapolis bungalows and duplexes on narrow lots with alley garages, brick fourplexes around the University, and Victorian houses in Lowry Hill and Kenwood with steep front steps and tight upper stairways. Street parking is metered or permit only in many neighborhoods, and the city's obstruction permit can hold a truck length of curb for you.
Most downtown and Uptown buildings have their own move in rules: a reserved freight elevator window, a certificate of insurance on file, pads on the walls, and in some cases weekdays only. We handle the pads. You book the elevator and tell us the window, and we size the crew so the load fits inside it. On a residential street, an obstruction permit from the city, requested at least 48 hours ahead, is the difference between a 30 foot carry and a 300 foot one.
Getting the truck to the door in Minneapolis.
During a Minneapolis snow emergency, Day 1 rules begin at 9 p.m. and ban parking on either side of Snow Emergency Routes, which have red snow emergency route signs and blue street name signs. Day 2 rules begin at 8 a.m. and ban parking on the even side of streets that are not Snow Emergency Routes and on either side of parkways. Day 3 rules begin at 8 a.m. and ban parking on the odd side of streets that are not Snow Emergency Routes. When the city puts winter parking restrictions in place, which end by April 1, parking is banned on the even side of streets that are not Snow Emergency Routes. Posting no parking signs to hold curb space takes an obstruction permit from Public Works, applied for on the city's Roway website with 48 hours' notice for the signs. During winter parking restrictions, obstruction permits for overnight parking or for the even side of a street are not valid.
Based on the city's own rules as of September 2026. City rules change, so check with the city before move day.

Moving in Minneapolis: common questions.
What happens if Minneapolis declares a snow emergency around my moving day?
How do I get no parking signs in front of my Minneapolis home for the truck?
Can I put a storage container or dumpster on the street while I move?
Pick only the parts you need.
Each of these is available on its own. Plenty of people book loading and unloading only and drive the truck themselves.
